Dziwna roślina. Jak wszystkie tu rosnące. Dziwne drzewo, jeśli to drzewo. Dziwny krzak, jeśli to krzak... Dziwne drzewko MIMEZIZ (niech będzie, że drzewko). Mogłoby przybrać zupełnie inną postać, jak wszystkie one tutaj. Lecz każda postać jaką by przybrało, byłaby tylko podobna do drzewa, które już gdzieś, kiedyś rosło. Tak jak każde zdanie jest tylko podobne do zdania kiedyś i gdzieś napisanego lub wymówionego. Nie ma tu, w tym arboretorium, żadnych drzew nowych. Są tylko drzewa podobne... A te, do których są podobne, te drzewa wielce starożytne które kiedyś i gdzieś wyrosły jako pierwsze – do czego i kogo były podobne, skoro nie było przed nimi żadnych drzew? To interesujące pytanie, lecz bardziej interesujące jest inne pytanie: dlaczego wyrosły właśnie takie i czy mogły wyrosnąć inne?

Stranga kreskaĵo. Kiel ĉiuj ĉi tie kreskantaj. Stranga arbo – se ĝi estas arbo. Stranga arbusto – se ĝi estas arbusto... Stranga arbeto MIMEZIZ (nu, ĝi estu arbeto). Povus preni tute alian formon, samkiel ĉiuj aliaj arboj ĉitieaj. Sed ĉiu formo kiun ĝi prenus estus nur simila al la arbo kiu iam ie estis kreskanta. Same kiel ĉiu frazo estas nur simila al la frazo ie kaj iam verkita. Neniuj novaj arboj troviĝas en tiu ĉi arboretorio, nur arboj similaj.... Kaj tiuj al kiuj ili similas, l'arboj antikvaj kiuj ie kaj iam elkreskis kiel la unuaj – al kiu kaj kio ili similas, se neniuj arboj kreskis antaŭ ili? Jen interesa demando, sed multe pli interesa estas alia demando: kial ili elkreskis ĝuste tiaj kaj ĉu ili povus havi alian formon ol havis?

A strange plant. Like all plants growing here. A strange tree – if it is a tree. A strange bush – if it is a bush... A strange little tree MIMEZIZ (let it be a little tree). It could have taken absolutely different form, like all other trees here. But any shape it had taken, would have been but similar to a tree that had been growing somewhere in the past. Like any phrase is but similar to a phrase spoken or written somewhere in the past. There are no new trees in this arboratory. There are only similar trees... And those ones they are similar to, those very ancient trees which had grown somewhere as the first ones – who and what were they similar to, if there had been no trees before them? This is an interesting question, but much more interesting is the following one: why did they grow just like that? couldn't they be different?
